I saw this film in the theater when it was originally released in 1983 and it has been one of my favorites ever since. What is fabulous is that it bombed at the box office and was panned by the critics. This movie is hilarious, and has to be seen in the Monty Python frame of mind. Chapman is priceless, Madeline Kahn is unforgettable, John Cleese is shining, Cheech and Chong are hilarious, and Marty Feldman is a laughable genius. I have friends over every year to contemplate this film and it’s become a “Rocky Dread Narrate indicate” type of event complete with costumes, antics, quote contests, and other silliness. It is a shame this isn’t available on DVD. Most of the VHS versions were terrible quality, and my copy is certainly on its last legs. If you like Monty Python, this definitely belongs in your collection while it’s mild somewhat available.

This movie is far under-rated in the realm of the Python movies. Seems to me it didn’t pick up enough PR or something because as a comedy film alone it is hilarious. It stars Graham Chapman (Yellowbead a coarse, harmful, out of touch, murderous pirate that kills anyone that gets in the procedure of his killing anyone), John Cleese (Blind Pew who has the most acute hearing in the world), Eric Lazy, Marty Feldman, Cheech and Chong (Spanish morons), Madeline Kahn (the unfaithful Mrs. Yellowbeard), Peter Boyle (Yellowbeard’s adversary and aged ship-mate, Moon), and James Mason (a cruely comical, overly sadastic, obscene Mutiny on the Bounty captain type) . It is place in the year 1707 and starts out with Yellowbeard nearing his release after 15 years in an English prison, and of course everyone wants to know where Yellowbeard hid his pirate love. Yellowbeard escapes the prison after his sentence is unfairly increased (to rep him wrathful enough to elope on purpose) objective before his parole and the rest movie is based on his attempt to avoid beng imprisoned again while being chased by the limp-wristed British authorities and going on a humorous non-sensical killing, raping (because he likes rape) and pilliging rampage tryng to recover the savor he hid so long ago. Of course the British authorities and Moon are after the cherish too :) This is a classic and should have been released on DVD a long time ago. This is Python stuff at it’s best with the nastiest Python humor anywhere! Someone please capture up on it and create a DVD of it soon as I have only worn rental resale VHS version (accch!) copy of it and would adore to glimpse it as it was meant to be seen- clearly and with valid THX sound.

Of the two films on this DVD, I’d say the winner is “The Wasp Woman.” Okay, so the film is coarse budget and the acting is questionable, but the face cloak primitive to obtain the wasp woman was very creepy. Maybe I have a thing about bugs. There’s something about those eyes and antennae which had me shiver fair a bit.

Too poor most people can’t indulge in a trustworthy veteran alarm movie without CGI or current special effects. The Wasp Woman represents those bygone days when you could study two for the impress of one at the local drive-in. I can’t say what a phenomenal movie it was but if you’re into the extinct unlit and white classics, I’d say give this one a shot.

As for the Gila Monster, don’t even bother. This was really, really poor all the diagram. It’s not even worth going into and wasting electronic ink to give a review. Engage my word for it boys and girls: quit away!

I didn’t have high expectations for this disc, but it didn’t even meet my modest hopes. What a turkey.

The two feature films are unpleasant beyond concept. I say this without having watched them from launch to effect. At one point, a notify in my head said “life is too short to raze it watching this junk”. So, I fast-fowarded through them to contemplate if, by some miracle, things would improve. They did not. I won’t bore you with the details, but will simply list the categories in which these films fail every test: camera work, acting, special effects, dialogue, pacing, and on and on.

But, to hiss the truth, the main thing I was intested in was the disc’s extras — the period intermission shorts and cartoons — which I hoped to utilize during my believe home drive-in presentations. These are marginally useful, though the menu system on the DVD makes it very difficult to display them, since you have to renegotiate the menu after every 30-second clip.

And, finally, there’s the scream of transfer quality. You don’t inquire of a complete digital restoration of this kind of material, especially when a degraded soundtrack is touted as one of the disc’s “benefits”. But the framing was so dreadful that, on the film titles and the shorts one or more letters was crop off on either side. I’m reminded of the joke: The wife complains to her husband “The food in this plot is objective abominable!” He replies: “Yes, and the portions are so minute!” I would at least inquire to collect all the lousy video I paid for.

I rate the disc with one star, only because one-half star wasn’t available. Maybe a qualified value for $1.99, but certainly not at the unusual ticket. Too bad; the concept seemed to have promise.

I first saw this suspense/spy thriller when it was first released in the theaters sometime in the leisurely 1970s, while living in London and working for the American government. There’s nothing that compares with the paranoia associated with seeing a taut peep thriller, only to exit the theater into a frigid, foggy slack evening in downtown London. The portray it paints of a murderous renegade network operating within the Central Intelligence Agency is both ghastly and plausible, and is delivered by Robert Redford and his production team in a tight, well-developed fable with a convincing thread of interconnecting events that spins procedure out of control as the protagonist tries desperately to figure out who is at the center of the status and why he and his cohorts at a special studies institute sponsored by the Agency are targets. For me, this movie is a nonstop roller-coaster accelerate, with Redford trying in vain to jump off the damn thing before it crashes below!

The level of paranoia as well as the multiple levels of deceit and deception depicted in the film seemed a bit weird at the time, but given the temper of the times, it somehow seemed remarkable more plausible in the backwash of Watergate and all that was revealed about the machinations of the so-called “invisible government” then. The hero’s ability to parse together the facts and learn and adapt as he progresses makes the movie work especially well, and one can describe to his growing frustration as he realizes there fair may not be any contrivance out alive. And between the margins of the scenes lie some engrossing questions regarding the role of secrecy in an launch and supposedly democratic society that add a measure of colorful acumen and “gravitas” to the narrative.

So accepted was this movie at the box office that it spawned a number of other search for thrillers in its wake. The film’s cast included not only Redford as the hero, but also starred Fay Dunaway, and Cliff Robertson. This movie makes for an fascinating evening of entertainment, and a surefire plan to dash the dead of everyday life with a graceful epic of slay, mayhem, and betrayal. I highly recommend this flick. First, the paucity of dialogue — in other words, what Redford displays and emotes rather than says — is much. It seems that for the first time in his career, Redford is really challenged to act instead of being fair another sparkling cinematic face. If ever a man could give the impression of being both paralyzed and hunted, Redford’s a cinch in “Condor.”

This is also a large Original York City film. Its streets, aid alleys, and buildings — in particular, the World Trade Center — all play supporting roles. Sidney Pollack makes top-notch employ of the then-newly finished twin towers in “Condor,” and this viewer lamented their destruction after watching scenes featuring the main lobby and a top-floor office inhabited by CIA deputy director Cliff Robertson.

The grainy quality of the film, matched with an often funky, sometimes sorrowful soundtrack scored by Dave Grusin, also adds to the aura of “Condor.” It’s as if Pollack attempted to do an American sendup of a French intrigue film. Grusin’s music also is not what you’d examine in a glance film, in that it has not a hint of the James Bond sound. Then again, the film is not a romantic recognize thriller, so it works.

In fact, Pollack and Redford successfuly screech a post-Watergate paranoia that the citizens’ government is ‘out there’ and will discontinuance at nothing to hunt down the truth-seeking rogue. Phone taps and plumbers (disguised, this time, as mailmen) abound. Suitably, “Three Days of the Condor” ends with a very anti-establishment message.

This film deserves to be placed in the list of top twenty huge American films of the current cinematic era (however one judges that) . “Condor” is fine the first time around and seems to be more delicious with subsequent viewings. Far from being a period fragment, it stands the test of time as a thriller that is also thoughtful.

Unfortunately, this series is *not* complete. It’s been butchered for a expeditiously buck. Only season one has the recent music, as is well documented. It’s such a shame to destroy what is one of TV’s finest and most novel shows.

Do yourself a favor and skip buying this place. I was able to obtain/bootleg all of the episodes on DVD, which I felt I had no choice in doing (I’d rather occupy a factory region), recorded from Canadian TV (which, by the procedure, even has more footage in some of the episodes than the syndicated U.S. broadcasts) . This scheme it’s intact, the procedure it was intended, with the novel soundtrack—not the pusillanimous generic elevator music that the studio hasty replaced it with in the DVDs. It’s fair not the same note without the current soundtrack.

A faux-suede satchel or spurious parka case doesn’t approach conclude to making up for compromising the artistic integrity of Northern Exposure. Sorry Universal, but you aren’t getting one red cent from me until you accept this apt.

I would adore to win this. It would be my most prized DVD plot. But I cannot until they show us the episodes in their complete and modern forms. What a murky slay. They could have sold 100X this many and had valid post release sales had they not gutted this astounding explain. Shadowy.

It’s map past time that something like this was released about Ella. This video contains lots of performance footage from various TV appearances and live concerts. I was very ecstatic to derive that the emphasis is on live footage rather than simply on narration with various collected shots and otherwise available, already notorious commercial recordings playing in the background. Of course there is quite a bit of narration, but the emphasis is aloof on Ella performing. We even win to look “alternative” performances of some commercially available live recordings that will be renowned to Ella fans. For example, there is a clip of her performing at Ronnie Scott’s in London doing her parody of country music and “Soul Yell” music. (It is a different version from the one on her “Ella in London” recording, and very humorous.) There is also a video clip from her performance with Count Basie’s orchestra at Montreux in ’79, singing fragment of “Basella” and trading fours with Eric Dixon and Mitchell “Bootie” Woods. (In this case, it is the same performance as the commercial audio recording, but the video gives additional insight into Ella’s performing style for Ella fans.) I enjoyed the video very powerful and can highly recommend it to both casual and hardcore fans (who might already have most of her commercial recordings) of Ella Fitzgerald. You will fetch several fresh things here.

Luckily I was able to peep Ella In Concert numerous times throughout the 70′s and 80′s and was honored to have her autograph two L.P.’s by her limousine after a concert she gave at the Junior College I attended at the time in 1972…Ella was kind and righteous and that quailty plus her gleaming artistry really arrive through and shine in this sparkling documentary of her life and incomparable career. Tony Bennett is the perfect choice to characterize this comely “American Masters” production and his like of Ella comes through and adds alot of soul to the special. Performance footage is ultimately what becomes breathtaking to experience and when Ella sings the classic “Something To Live For” it is breathtakingly gorgeous and completely haunting. The expend of concert footage from the various stages of her career point to that Ella found joy in sharing her gift with her audience and songs like “For Once In My Life” become life experiences that are emotionally engaging and technically smart. This “American Masters” special is a keeper so for anyone who loves the legendary Ella bag this historical work posthaste while it is available as this is the definitive work about the life and career of this wonderous and gifted talent…BRAVO ELLA and thank you are all the improbable years of sublime singing and you are truly missed!!!

A finely crafted, sumptuously produced romantic thriller that has the distinction of featuring director Hitchcock, and stars Grant and Bergman at their collective best. Even so, Claude Rains manages to dominate almost every scene in which he appears; his Oscar-nominated portrayal of the lovesick mama’s boy engaged in espionage comes off as supremely menacing, emotionally ambiguous, and yet oddly sympathetic … all at the same time.

The film-to-DVD transfer is quite agreeable. There are a couple of jumps and pops in the master print that are a bit jarring, but overall it’s a crisp and shipshape presentation with tremendous disagreement. Although the package doesn’t mention it, the DVD does offer chapter search/scene selection which is always a nice perk. There aren’t any of the bonus features that we contemptible DVD collectors are coming to request (trailers, biographical sketches, etc.), but it’s quiet a more than acceptable edition of a truly classic film.

The video transfer of unusual Criterion DVD version of Famous is a bit sharper, more detailed, and has better disagreement than that of the Anchor Bay DVD version released in 1999. Unfortunately, it also reveals a lot more film grains. The graininess is not noticeable in most parts of the film unless a announce comparision with Anchor Bay’s transfer is made. But in a few scenes, the graininess fair cannot be ignored, and could be detrimental to one’s viewing pleasure. In spite of that, in my understanding the increased detail and sharpness of Criterion’s transfer is level-headed preferrable to Anchor Bay’s comparatively softer and darker relate.

Regarding audio, it is no contest. Criterion’s mono 1.0 sound has Distinguished greater clarity, depth, details, volume than Anchor Bay’s comparatively muted and muffled soundtrack. In addition, the Criterion disc also includes optional English subtitles while Anchor Bay’s does not.

The Criterion DVD retains all of the supplementary material from their acquire CAV laserdisc version from 1991, and it adds some more…

There are two safe audio commentary tracks. One is by Marian Keane, and it deals straight with the artistic aspects of the film by providing scene-by-scene, shot-by-shot dissertations. Other extras include an all-too-brief excerpt of the short legend “The Song of the Dragon” which inspired the film. There are about 40 production stills, mostly of Hitchcock, Cary Grant, and Ingrid Bergman. There is a part that explains how the many rear projection shots were done (some of the shots are quite seamless) . There are a few production correspondences written by David O. Selznick, Bergman, and even FBI chief J. Edgar Hoover in response to the film’s treatment of special agents. There are 4 theatrical trailers and short teasers. There is a one-minute newsreel footage of Hitchcock and Bergman arriving in England. There are script excerpts of 5 deleted scenes, and 3 alternate endings in which one or more of the four main characters net wounded or killed on hide. In a engrossing segment called “The Fate of the Unica Key”, Marian Keane speaks on an audio track about how Bergman, during AFI’s Lifetime Award ceremony for Hitchcock, handed the Unica key to the director as a token of appreciate and respect (unfortunately, no footage of the AFI telecast is included) . Last, but not least, there is a one-hour radioplay version of the film, in pleasant audio quality, recorded in 1948, starring Joseph Cotten as Devlin and Bergman again as Alicia (the laserdisc version only has a 15-minute excerpt of the radioplay) .

20th Century Fox has done an OUTSTANDING job remastering & digital transferring to DVD many of their World War II movies under the heading of FOX WAR CLASSICS!

“Heaven Knows Mr. Allison” is the best of this series thus far. This 1957 film is presented beautifully in Delux Color & Anamorphic WideScreen (automatically adjusts to your tv size including 16:9 HDTV) format.

Summary: John Huston directs this outstanding anecdote about two of the dearest, most enjoyable & extraordinary people who must survive together in the Southern Pacific during World War II. Sister Angelia (Deborah Kerr – absolutely fabulous (Oscar Nominated for Best Actress) ) as a missionary nun and U.S. Marine Corporal Allison (Robert Mitchum – perfectly casted truly) who are stranded on an island in Japanese occupied territory. Very few war films have a script with objective two characters and all the lines in the movie are spoken by those two characters only. One wouldn’t mediate this would be a war film, but it is. This classic WWII war film focuses on the pinacole of opposite human beings, thrust together and forced to survive on each other’s individual strengths. Mr. Allison (R. Mitchum) is the marine who beaches on an island after being cast a drift in the Pacific Ocean for several days. There he searches the island and finds only one living person: a nun. Sister Angela (D. Kerr) is a dedicated nun who accompanied a priest to the island but got marooned there instead, and the priest dying a day or so later. Mr. Allison and Sister Angela work as a team on the island in order to preserve themselves. They do everything together: they catch island fruit, fish for turtles, construct a cruise, and have deep conversations about each other’s contrary occupations and past.

The character of Mr. Allison is brilliantly developed and is easily likeable among viewers. He is portrayed as a vast tiring, guy, with a soft heart and top marine skills. He’s clumsy with words and he’s very begin about his feelings, which at times puts Sister Angela in sad positions. Equally developed is Sister Angela, who is greatly sympathized by the many stresses she is forced to endure. She rarely speaks unless spoken to by Mr. Allison, as she is obviously discouraged around him half the time. But as the characterize progresses, she becomes more and more accustomed with having him around and a mutual fondness for each other develops.

The film is highly unique and thorougly gripping. Although it’s a movie about a man and woman, it is not a romance. Even though they are alone on an island together, there’s no hint of carnal pleasure for each other. Instead, the movie shows how a man and woman can accomplish a relationship of trust, not unbiased in order to survive, but because they are alone together. It is a movie of friends, not lovers, which is very original of Hollywood. The results are phenominally engaging and realistic.

Since it is a war film, there are explosions and guns and some action sequences, but most of it is toned down. Spot in the Pacific Theatre during WWII, there are Japanese marines depicted in the film, but no characters are established amongst them. If any criticism is due for this film it is the need for a more sterling ending. There is quite a bit of silence throughout the movie, a lot of sounds from the ocean and exotic birds chirping. It’s as relaxing as it is spirited.

The film is rated G, there is no language (certainly not from Sister Angela!) and no indecency of any kind. Some blood, but it’s not worth hiding a kid’s eyes over. Only if one is offended by Catholicism or someone getting drunk on Japanese liquor would this film have any beget of warnings at all.

To summarize, Heaven Knows Mr. Allison is an modern kind of war movie with highly developed characters. Dorothy Mills has a lot going for it. Its well acted, has a nice space with a bit of originality to it (gorgeous rare nowadays), well written, well shot, the recipe for a stellar movie. Unfortunately I also found it to be quite unimaginative. The movie is very somber, and meant to be as such, but it was unbiased so grey, it kind of made me tune out at times. Nothing more I can say about it really, it has a multitude of superior points, but impartial came off a microscopic boring. Serene recommended though.

This was a very well made movie with quality acting by all. The description of the movie does not deliver the whole narrative. There is powerful more to the fable line that is very inspiring. There’s a lot of tension and a few bloody scenes, mainly tiring, sheep. Dorothy is a “gifted” young girl who many contain is under demonic control. A doctor comes to comes to her home after a disturbing incident Dorothy has while babysitting. The doctor believes Dorothy has multiple personalities. This is when the narrative really takes shape and draws you in. What is really Dorothy’s gift??? You will have to inspect the movie to collect out. Very entertaning yarn and well worth a spy.

I really don’t like anime. It’s fair. Growing up in the ’80s and seeing the reruns of ’70s imports (like Race Racer), not to mention the whole Pokémon thing that hit while I was in high school, I know some people out there like those things but I fetch them frightening and annoying. Funny caricatures with large eyes and frame rates of about 2 per microscopic, almost like watching a hasten display with really dreadful narration.

Then a friend pressured me to behold Cowboy Bebop on Cartoon Network. He knew my reservations about Japanese cartoons, but pushed me into it anyway (it was a Saturday night, I wasn’t doing anything anyway…) and I haven’t stopped thanking him.

This series is genuine. Not kindly, gargantuan. This is the program that anyone who says “cartoons are for kids” should survey. The first thing that I noticed was that the episodes were each standalone. Most of the common animations of today are very series-oriented, if you miss one the next one probably won’t perform sense, and the whole thing feels soap-opera-ish. But not Bebop. Oh, it’s factual that there’s an ongoing storyline, but you don’t have to be familiar with it to luxuriate in any given episode. In fact, it might be excellent to witness them out of sequence once and then in order, you’ll acquire everything on two different levels.

Then there’s the music. It is easily the best music in a cartoon, possibly the best in a television series. Fair like I don’t like anime, I don’t like jazz. Or so I notion, but many thanks to Yoko Kanno for proving me depraved on that count. It’s current, it’s catchy, and even though I didn’t powerful care for a lot of it initially, it now has so grand emotion attached to it that I have added it to my regular listening. I definitely can’t say that about any other television series ever.

Oh, the characters. Where can I even commence? They have complexity and depth, good of some of the best movies to ever approach out of Hollywood. They each have their absorb backgrounds, their possess motives, they have personality. After twenty-six episodes, it’s hard not to compose an attachment to at least one of them. You don’t have to engage my word on this; I’ve seen many others who agree with me on this. Besides, you could study it and determine for yourself.

As far as I’m concerned, this is notable viewing. Not everyone might agree with me, but I have a feeling that there are many out there who would absolutely fancy this expose if they saw fair one episode. It turned me on to anime, and I’m graceful hard to sway in view. If you’re into anime, this is a must. If you can bring yourself to realize cartoons as something other than Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse, this is probably for you, too. It’s for adults of all ages, and appeals for so many reasons.

By the arrangement, the dubbed version may be better. Nothing against the unique cast, and it’s not a personal aversion to subtitles (I usually bewitch subbed to dubbed), but the English cast are unbelievable. I’ve never seen that kind of attention or acting in translation. And, because of the nature of the note, I contemplate it unbiased feels better.

This item is a microscopic edition. When it hit the shelves, you could hold it for about $120. It came with 6 dvds, a special box, a soundtrack, and all of them were numbered. Since they were shrimp, Bandai stopped making them a long time ago. Unfortunately, if you’re a fan of the series and don’t beget the Perfect Session box status, you’re stuck with buying them individually if you want a NTSC status 1 version that has obliging quality video. You will regain two different heed range sets in the “Unusual and Extinct” portion. The first range from about $200-$300, this is someone or some store that has an precise Perfect session box area and since it’s now a rarity, has raised the designate. The other is a 3-disc “bootleg” and the ticket usually ranges $30-$60. The video quality is noxious and unless you honest want a copy of the series and don’t mind the bad quality, I really wouldn’t reccomend it. I know the trace price is very intriguing, but if your looking for a quality copy, you’re going to have to consume a Bandai version, either by spinging the money for the Perfect session or by purchasing them individually.

The 1983 thatrical release tells the proper but grand abridged epic of Billy Mills, the Oglala Sioux who came from obscurity to obtain the 10,000 meter hasten in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. The core of the movie focuses on Mills’s stint as a student and runner at the University of Kansas,facing the overt racism of his teammates and the white community, and his personal conflict with his coach, played by Pat Hingle, over Mills’s racing style. The racing scenes are some of the best on film (if you overlook the out of status football field at the Olympics), and “Running Valorous” rises above the level of the other sports hero genre and other racing films.

I have given this DVD a 1-star rating because it is NOT the theatrical release, but the version that was re-edited for broadcast TV. (The movie was released as PG. This version, as well-known on the DVD box, is rated G.) Several key scenes have been deleted, watering-down or eliminating distinguished of the conflict. This DVD uses a 4:3 (TV) aspect ration, not the theatrical widescreen presentation. Quality of the video transfer is very abominable.

Billy Mills’ racy record is nicely told in this no-frills DVD version (not a large transfer FYI) . The writing and acting border on the “Movie of the Week” genre, but the staunch appeal –especially for running enthusiasts– will be the running sequences. Robby Benson gives a very charming, earnest performance as Mills and is completely convincing as a runner, too.

While it may not occupy the interest of some audiences, it is definitely a nice one to add to your collection of films if you are a sports/running fan.
